OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were the 2016 OnePlus smartphones. The company had promised the Android Nougat OS update for these phones to arrive before 2016 ends. True to their word, the update arrived on the 31st of December, just before the year ended. The comapny has now made a similar promise for the Android O OS as well. OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T would be getting the Android O OS update before 2017 ends.

There question was always of When and not If the update would come to these phones. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau had confirmed that the phones would be getting the Android O OS update back in May. However, there was no word on when the update would roll out. This was later made clear during a Reddit AMA session where OnePlus confirmed that both these phones would be getting the latest version of Android before the year comes to a close.

The Android O Operating System has been the talk of the town. The Android O Developer Preview was announced late in the month of March. Since then, two more developer preview versions have come out, and we are awaiting a final one which is expected to come out early in July. Current word in the markets is that the Google Pixel smartphones would be the first ones to get this update by late July or early August.

As of now the official name of the Android O OS has not been declared. Speculations indicated Android Oreo in the past, but latest reports indicate it might actually be Android Oatmeal Cookie. In addition to confirming that Android O will come out before the end of the year, the company answered other questions too. Here’s more of what OnePlus said at the AMA.

  • The company has no plans to release phones with expandable storage.
  • There’s no interest in making a tablet as of now.
  • A premium smartphone with $800 price tag can be expected.
  • OnePlus did not answer questions regarding the recent benchmark-cheating controversy.
