A global leader in the world of software technology, Microsoft has been around for a really long time, and has been a pioneer and a leader when it comes to the markets of technology. However, while they continue to be among the biggest names in the markets, they too, need to ensure their costs are minimal. Microsoft is now laying off employees by the thousands. The company has confirmed that a number of people currently employed with Microsoft jobs will soon be laid off.
Most of these Microsoft jobs that will be terminated are those of sales and based outside the US. Reports indicate that Microsoft would be terminating somewhere between 3000 to 4000 Microsoft Jobs. This is about 10% of Microsoft’s total sales force. In their official statement, Microsoft said:
Microsoft is implementing changes to better serve our customers and partners. Today, we are taking steps to notify some employees that their jobs are under consideration or that their positions will be eliminated. Like all companies, we evaluate our business on a regular basis. This can result in increased investment in some places and, from time-to-time, re-deployment in others.
Microsoft has said that while they might be cutting jobs in some areas, they are also going to hire more people soon. This move has perhaps been taken keeping in mind the growth of their cloud computing business. Rumors of these Microsoft jobs being at risk had been around for quite a while and Microsoft has finally confirmed them today. Microsoft has been axing employees at a rather rapid pace. Last year alone, more than 7500 people were let go by Microsoft.
Currently, the company has over 120,000 employees working for them globally. With this job cut, nearly 3000 to 4000 employees are likely to lose their jobs. Last years’ cuts were mostly around smartphones, and later sales. This year too, the salesforce is being cut.
