The Nextbit Robin smartphone was one of the most talked about smartphones back when it came out. It was appreciated for the concept it came with, the cloud based phone that was all set to set a benchmark for phones of the future. While the concept didn’t really pick off that well, the phone has been getting regular updates. It got the Android 7.0 Nougat OS on time, and it the Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS for Nextbit Robin too, is now rolling out.
The OS update comes out after months of being in testing phase. Since Nextbit was purchased by Razer a while ago, no one really expected the phone to get many updates in the days to follow. However, against all odds, the Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS for Nextbit Robin is indeed rolling out.
The Android Nougat OS update had first arrived for the phone back in March of this year. However what truly surprises us about the Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS for Nextbit Robin is the fact that despite the latest Android OS update, the phone still runs an outdated security patch, dated April 1st 2017.
In addition to the regular Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS for Nextbit Robin, the company has also updated the Razer Insider website with a factory image of the update. This means that even the users who plan to do a clean install on their phone can install the update using this image. This is indeed an amazing update that improves the performance of the phone, and adds more value to the device.
The Nextbit Robin was a kickstarter product. About a 1000 devices were shipped to the backers in February 2016. Since then, the company has been selling a number of devices but the Nextbit Robin sales have been stopped following the acquisition of Nextbit by Razer in January of this year.
