Alibaba is a giant when it comes to the world of e-commerce and technology. The company has been bringing around a revolution and has changed the way we know digital payments technology to be. They are moving forward from tap to pay and scan to pay towards facial recognition. This is made possible with the help of Alibaba’s Smile to Pay payment service in China.
Alibaba has taken a major step forward when it comes to innovation in digital payments with this service. The Smile to Pay technology is a result of years of work from the company. It has now been implemented in China’s Huangzhou, which is also the city where Alibaba’s Headquarters are located at. Currently this payment method is being tested at a KFC outlet in the city.
Alibaba’s Smile to Pay technology is simple and easy to use. It eliminates the need of a smartphone from the process of making a payment. Instead of tapping their phone or scanning a code, all a user has to do is stand in front of a kiosk. They can select the food they want to order on it. This kiosk will use a 3D camera to scan their face and verify their identity.
Following the identity verification the user will be asked to enter a PIN on the kiosk. After verifying the PIN, the user will get the bill generated which means the payment has been processed. It is an extremely simple process and a quite innovative one too.
Alibaba and WeChat are among the biggest players when it comes to digital payments in China and the company is giving a fierce competition to WeChat Pay by adding more such innovative methods in their arsenal. They have been testing this technology for the past two years and it is good to finally see it being implemented in real time. Stay tuned with us for more details on Smile to Pay and Alibaba.
